Cloe Piccoli

Art critic and curator, Cloe Piccoli is tenure Professor of Contemporary Art at the Brera Fine Arts Academy in Milan.

Her work spans across projects on different levels: from concepts to strategic planning to forging partnerships between Public and Private institutions. She counts on an extensive network of national and international relationships with museums, foundations, galleries, artists, architects, designers, museum directors, curators, critics, collectors, and journalists. She writes about Art and Architecture for La Repubblica and d La Repubblica.  

In 2022 Cloe Piccoli  curates the Italian Council winning project 20/20.000 Hz by Masbedo promoted by the Italian Ministry of Culture, together with a network of International partners: ICA, Milan,  Soda Gallery, Manchester, Centre Pompidou, Metz, CCA Tel Aviv-Yafo, MAXXI, Rome, Fondazione Merz Turin, Triennale, Milan, Castello Sforzesco Milan, Museo del Novecento Milan.  

In 2018, she is invited to participate in Manifesta 12 – The Planetary Garden: with her project The Hidden City for the palazzo Abatellis Museum which included artists and architects such as Stefano Graziani, Simon Starling, and Kersten Geers. She has been Artistic Director of major Contemporary Art productions for la Rinascente, including the site-specific installations by Paola Pivi (2017) and John Armleder (2015) for the façade of the Palazzo in Piazza Duomo in Milan. Artistic Director of Acqua di Parma Contemporary Art Projects (LVMH Italia), for which she has created art and culture projects including the exhibition I’ll Be There Forever | The Sense of Classic at Palazzo Cusani in Milan (2014 | 2016). Artistic Director for a series of site-specific Architecture projects at the Museo del Novecento at the Arengario of Palazzo Reale, Milan (2012 | 2014): these include Seeing Machine by Kuehn Malvezzi Architects and Shining Surface by Park Associati. Artistic director of the Christian Dior Award  for emerging artists and an exhibition at the Triennale di Milano (2013). She curated the Public Program for Alberto Garutti’s show at PAC Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea, (2012) Milan.

She has curated exhibitions and projects for international institutions including: MAXXI Museo Nazionale delle Arti del XXI Secolo, Rome; PS1/ MoMA, New York; Art Unlimited, Basel Art Fair; Museo del Novecento, Milan; La Triennale, Milan; Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Roma (MACRO), Rome; Musée d’Art Moderne, Saint-Etienne Metropole (France); PAN – Palazzo delle Arti, Naples; Fondazione Querini Stampalia, Venice; Domus Academy, Milan; Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, Venice; Cartier Creative Academy, Milan; EXPO Gate, Milan, Museo Pecci, Prato.

She has worked on solo shows and installations by John Armleder, Elisabetta Benassi, Rosa Barba, Simone Berti, Massimo Bartolini, Pedro Cabrita Reis, Jonas Dahlberg, Stefania Galegati, Alberto Garutti, Stefano Graziani, Armin Linke, Kuehn Malvezzi, Atelier van Lieshout, Studio Park, Diego Perrone, Paola Pivi, Tobias Rehberger, Vedovamazzei, Darius Ziura. 

A jury member of the Italian Studio Program, PS1/MoMA, New York (2002–2004), she was one of the authors of Young Artists in Italy at the Turn of the Millenium, PS1 Italian Studio Program, Charta, Milan, 2005. In 2003 for Darc (Direzione Generale Arte e Architettura Contempora- nea) she curated Mobilitaly, a study and exhibition on the latest trends in Italian art in light of the establishment and opening of MAXXI Museo Nazionale delle Arti del XXI Secolo, Rome. 

Soon to be published, is book with  a significant selection from the hundreds of interviews and conversations she has conducted with leading cultural figures: Artists and Architects who are driving the debate in their respective fields globally.
